Unused Workspaces Will Be Cleaned Up Automatically

From 9 November 2026, Snowflake and BigQuery workspaces unused for six months are deactivated and later deleted. You get an e-mail before each step, and using a workspace keeps it.

Projects collect workspaces nobody uses anymore: old sandboxes, one-off analyses, leftovers of abandoned configurations. From 9 November 2026 we will clean them up automatically. Workspaces you use are never affected.

What happens to an unused workspace

  1. Warning: workspaces not used for 6 months get a warning. On 9 November 2026 this includes workspaces that have been unused for a long time already. You receive one summary e-mail listing all your affected workspaces with their deactivation date, not one e-mail per workspace. If the owner is no longer in the project, the organization administrators get it.
  2. Deactivation: 30 days later, nobody can log in to the workspace. The data stays. The e-mail tells you the deletion date.
  3. Deletion: 3 months after deactivation, the workspace and its data are deleted.

Any use before deactivation cancels the warning: a login (SQL editor, SQL client, BI tool, writer) or a job that loads data into the workspace or reads from it.

We send the first warnings organization by organization between 9 November 2026 and 18 November 2026, so the first deactivations come in December and the first deletions no sooner than March 2027.

What you can do

  • See what will be removed: Project Settings › All workspaces, filter Will be removed, shows every affected workspace and its next date.
  • Keep a workspace: use it before its deactivation date.
  • Get a deactivated workspace back: contact support before its deletion date.
