Snowflake Workspaces: Transition from Password Authentication
New Snowflake workspaces will require Key Pair authentication starting March 31, 2026. Existing password-authenticated workspaces continue working but should be migrated before Snowflake's deprecation completes in October 2026.
What is affected after March 31, 2026
| Workspace Type | Impact |
|---|---|
| Existing Snowflake workspaces with password authentication | Continue working but migration recommended |
| New Snowflake workspaces | Use Key Pair authentication |
| Other workspace types (R, Python, BigQuery) | Not affected |
What's Changing
Starting March 31, 2026, Keboola will no longer support the creation of new Snowflake SQL workspaces using single-factor password authentication. This proactive change ensures our platform remains fully compatible with Snowflake's upcoming security enhancements and protects your workflows from potential connection issues.
Why We're Making This Change
Snowflake is deprecating single-factor password authentication as part of their security standards. We're making this change early to help you avoid connection disruptions when Snowflake completes their deprecation later this year.
What You Need to Do
If you have existing password-authenticated workspaces:
- Review which workspaces use password authentication (look for orange key icon)

- Migrate to Key Pair authentication using our Key Pair Migration Tool (takes a few clicks)
Tip: Ensure your team is aware of the new authentication requirements for future workspace creation
If you're creating new workspaces after March 31:
- Simply use Key Pair authentication (password auth no longer available)
What You Need to Know
Existing Workspaces
Your currently active Snowflake workspaces using password authentication will continue to work. However, we strongly recommend migrating them to Key Pair authentication to prevent potential connection issues when Snowflake fully deprecates password authentication later this year.
New Workspaces
After March 31, 2026, all new Snowflake SQL workspaces must use Key Pair authentication, which provides enhanced security through cryptographic key-based authentication.
