Snowflake DWHM: Password-free Key-Pair Authentication for Users
Applicable for users of Snowflake Data Warehouse Manager (DWHM) component only.
The Snowflake DWHM now supports creating user accounts with key-pair authentication only, without setting a password.
Previously, when provisioning Snowflake PERSON-type users with a public key, the component would also generate a random password on the account. This could conflict with enforcing key-pair-only authentication policies when requesting password reset even user logs in with keypair.
With the new Skip Password option, you can now create and maintain users that authenticate exclusively via key-pair — no password is set or retained on the account.
How to use it:
- In the DWH Manager user configuration, enable the new Skip Password toggle (requires a public key to be configured)
- New users will be created without a password
- For existing users, any previously set password will be automatically removed
This is an opt-in feature — existing configurations continue to work exactly as before.
