Important Updates: Snowflake Access and Writer Changes

On December 4, we’ll be releasing a few updates related to the planned Snowflake Workspace Access Changes

Important Updates: Snowflake Access and Writer Changes

Upcoming Snowflake Access Changes

First, we want to remind everyone about the important changes to Snowflake access, especially for customers using Keboola’s shared Snowflake database.

All customers using shared Snowflake resources will lose direct access to Snowflake on January 7, 2026. To support your workflows, we already provide:

  • the SQL Editor (currently in beta) for developing SQL directly in Keboola
  • the Data Gateway (currently in beta) for sharing data from Keboola with third-party tools

Losing direct Snowflake access may impact several use cases, such as SQL development in Snowsight or IDEs, dbt development using Keboola-provided databases, or using those databases as destinations in Snowflake Writers. This is because users will no longer be able to access Snowflake credentials or sign in to the Snowflake UI.

If you store scripts in Snowsight worksheets, we strongly recommend exporting them now so you'll have a backup.

Snowflake Writer: Removal of “Keboola Snowflake Database” Destination Option

As stated in the documentation, on December 4, 2025, we will remove the option to use the Keboola Snowflake database as a destination for Snowflake Writer for customers on Keboola’s shared Snowflake database.

These customers will lose direct Snowflake access at the beginning of next year, so this Snowflake Writer feature will no longer be available. Instead, we recommend using the Data Gateway as the alternative for sharing data with third-party tools. Data Gateway also introduces fast clone loading, which is an improvement over the previous solution.

We’re also postponing billing for the Data Gateway component until January 1, 2026, so customers have enough time to test everything and run Writers and Data Gateways in parallel for a while without any additional consumption overhead.
