New Kai Functions - Now Building Data Apps, Planning Multi-Step Work, and More

Kai, your in-platform AI assistant, is getting a major upgrade. We've switched Kai to a new, more agentic backend—a meaningful step up in what Kai can actually do for you. Instead of just answering questions and suggesting next steps, Kai can now plan complex work, execute it step by step, and build real, working things in your project.

Here's what the new, more agentic Kai brings:

What's new

• Builds and deploys new generation of Apps. Kai isn't limited to Streamlit anymore. It can build dashboards, internal tools, APIs, and more, in any language, and deploy them straight onto Keboola. As it works, you get a live side-by-side preview so you can watch the app take shape and iterate in real time.

• Plans and executes multi-step work. Kai can break a complex request into a plan, show it to you, and work through it task by task. So bigger, multi-step jobs get done in a single conversation instead of one prompt at a time.
• Accepts file uploads. Drag, drop, or paste files right into the chat: load a CSV straight into Storage, share a document or config for context, or drop in a screenshot of a dashboard to have Kai refine the design.
• Slash commands and skills. Type / in the chat to browse built-in commands and reusable skills available in your project.
• Longer, more resilient conversations. Kai automatically manages long conversations so they keep going, and you can refresh the page or switch tabs without losing your place while it works.

What this means for you

Together, these add up to an assistant that's less of a chatbot and more of a hands-on collaborator - one that can take a goal, plan the steps, and deliver a finished result in your project.

Many of these capabilities are only possible on the new backend, which we're rolling out progressively across projects on our multi-tenant stacks.

Beta extended

We're extending Kai's Beta through September 2026, so you can keep enjoying these new capabilities free while we prepare for general availability. We'll share GA and pricing details closer to that date.
